Safer decks. Bigger crowds. Zero maintenance headaches.
Halftime Bar & Grill owner in Johnsburg, Illinois engaged us to demolish, rebuild, and expand their outdoor deck and install a new railing system. At the time, the owner operated three properties; after this project, he continued to grow to five or six locations, with our team providing railings and additional work on multiple sites.
Challenge
The existing deck and wooden pickets required constant daily checks to ensure loose boards or railings would not create safety hazards for customers. The owner planned a major expansion—adding roughly 3,000 square feet and doubling the deck size—around two volleyball courts, with portions of the deck 10–12 feet above grade. There was also an emergency stair on the rear of the deck that needed ADA‑compliant railings and handrails, all under a tight timeline aligned with the bar’s volleyball schedule.
Solution
We performed a full deck demolition and rebuild, including construction of a 20×50 foot bar structure on top of the deck. Our team installed a powder‑coated aluminum railing system along the inner U‑shaped perimeter facing the volleyball courts, as well as railings on the rear emergency stair and a dedicated handrail system on the center stairway used by players. In total, we completed approximately 1,500 linear feet of railings and handrails, using durable materials and layouts designed for high‑traffic, outdoor bar use.
Why They Chose Us
The business owner chose us for our ability to handle the full deck and railing scope, our use of durable, low‑maintenance materials, and the long‑term value of our installations. Our track record with fast, well‑planned projects and our focus on design that enhances customer experience made us a strong fit for a busy bar and volleyball venue. After this job, the owner continued to rely on us as a trusted contractor across his growing portfolio of properties.
Results
The expanded deck and new railing system were completed in time to meet the volleyball schedule, with no delays. The bar gained a larger, safer outdoor seating area with improved visual appeal and a more robust, low‑maintenance structure. The success of this project led directly to additional work on other bar and restaurant properties owned by the same client, reinforcing our role as his main contractor for growth and renovations.
